Although the coronavirus pandemic has not gone away, vaccination rates in America have created the opportunity for a return to normal/a new normal/the ability to start enjoying activities and opportunities you may not have been able to participate in for more than a year.
Cosmetic surgery offices across the country had to temporarily shutter their doors for several weeks last year to do our part to stop the spread. This was part of the reason cosmetic surgery procedures were down last year. As things are returning to normalcy, people are expressing a renewed interest in cosmetic treatments to beautify and renew their faces and bodies!
Consider these ASPS survey facts (1,000 women were surveyed):
- 11 percent of respondents said they are more interested in cosmetic surgery and non-surgical treatments now than before the COVID-19 pandemic appeared
- Among respondents who had undergone cosmetic surgery in the past, 24 percent of them said they were more likely to have a procedure or treatment now compared to before COVID-19 appeared
- 35 percent of women who had undergone cosmetic surgery in the past said they planned to spend more on aesthetic treatments in 2021 compared to 2020
With all the Zoom chats and video calls many of us participated in last year, one would reasonably assume that people are seeking facial and neck procedures. It’s true that in 2020, the top 3 procedures were nose re-shaping, eyelid surgery, and facelift. This is quite a change since breast augmentation has been the Number 1 procedure in the US for many years running before the pandemic. Although face procedures were up, this latest ASPS survey shows there may be an evolving interest in body procedures: Among women who said they were extremely or very likely to consider getting a cosmetic procedure in the next 6 months, 22 percent cited tummy tucks as being the main contender, and 17 percent reported interest in liposuction as their procedure of choice.
